It's no secret that J.D. Robb is the prolific alter-ego of super-prolific author Nora Roberts. The J. and D. are a nod at Roberts' sons, Jason and Dan, while the Robb is just Roberts shortened. The latest book in the science fiction/mystery/romance Eve Dallas series, Portrait in Death, debuts at number 13 on the January bestseller list. Pastor/author Rick Warren's purpose-driven take on life is enlarging his flock at a rate that is almost alarming. The Purpose-Driven Life follows up Warren's bestselling 1995 book, The Purpose-Driven Church. Southern Gothic with a strong literary bent, The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd will knock the socks off fans of last year's The Lovely Bones. When the father of cyberpunk, William Gibson, writes, people tend to listen. His latest outing, Pattern Recognition, is no exception: we're listening. Even though Pattern Recognition is set in the present, there's an otherworldly quality here that is immediately recognizable as Gibson.
